| | SCRIPT PREVIEW | | | Synopsis | | "I felt as though the Crucifixion were taking place in our sanctuary," said an audience member of this drama's original production. But elaborate scenery and complicated props aren't necessary to achieve this moving realism - it is the compelling power of suggestion. The congregation is transported back to 30 A.D. as Mary Magdalene, Mary and Salome linger on the fringe of the Crucifixion scene. They strain to see and hear what is being said and done. Their urgent, present-tense commentary and gestures as if the Crucifixion were taking place just beyond the congregation bring an immediacy to the Gospel story. The cast is kept small to make rehearsing easier. All but one of the parts are for women. This short play was originally performed for a church sunrise service. |
