A caterpillar reluctantly begins the metamorphosis process and sheds his skin. He dreads the changes he's going through and longs to stay the same. Though he protests each new stage, he is elated with the end result, when he is created anew as a brilliantly colored butterfly. The play's theme: change is necessary for growth. Jesus had to die in order to rise again. Although the play is suitable for performance any time of year, the message of change and rebirth is especially fitting for Eastertide.
